The Justice Society of America? What is it?  Well, the Justice Society of America was a series that ran in All Star Comics from its winter 1940 issue to its February-March 1951 issue. With an eleven year run, it was one of the longest running series in the Golden Age of Comics! Who are they? The Justice Society of America was the world's first superhero group.. Its membership included some of the biggest names of the era:  The Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, Wonder Woman, The Atom, Starman,  and so on. Superman and Batman were even honourary members! It would provide the inspiration for the Justice League of America and inspire imitators to this day.

The original run of the Justice Society of America ended with All-Star Comics #57 in 1951, but the enduring popularity of the first superhero group ensured that they would return in all new adventures in years to come. After sixty years new stories featuring the Justice Society of America are still being written and, just recently, the group has reformed once more to combat the forces of evil. To know the history of the Justice Society, then, is to know the history of comic books.
